The average community member may look at local arts programs as something designed to satisfy a very small group of people. Many of us believe that we have nothing in common with anyone involved in the creative or performing arts. No matter who you are, you are connected to art. Whether you’re a car buff restoring a classic auto creation or a landscaper hired to make a yard beautiful to the eye, you are using the the right side of your brain, and that is art. Therefore, everyone needs to support local arts programs.
These programs usually exist to help educate children in the arts. Since school systems often have to reduce art education due to funding challenges, private citizens are the people who pick up the slack. Every child deserves to explore his creative side. Even if that child will inherit your auto body shop, his ability to think creatively will help him stand out in his chosen career path. The more community support a local arts program receives, the more opportunities it can offer. Their goal is usually to provide all or some free programming so that they can make creativity accessible to all children; not just their own. As well, if you show your support, then the school district sees the programming as valuable, and it will be more willing to let the local arts program bring some of it’s curriculum into the school in the form of assemblies.
Even if you don’t think art will make a difference in your child’s future, you do like to be entertained. You love your music, television and movies. Whether you think so or not, these are forms of art. Artistic people created them. Wouldn’t it be a boring world if they didn’t exist. Even an art director laid out your favorite hot rod magazine. Take it all away, and life would be pretty dreary.
