The region in the Americas where the Latin derived languages, also known as romance languages are spoken is known as Latin America. It includes most of the South American continent. The languages spoken are Spanish, Portuguese and French. It has a population of more than 580 million. The region was colonized by the Europeans, Spanish and Portuguese.
Spanish and Portuguese languages are spoken predominantly across the Latin America, Portuguese is spoken only in Braz9il and it is the official language of Brazil, where as all the other countries in the Latin American region follow Spanish as their national language. French is used in few places as well.
Latin American boasts of a very rich indigenous traditional art, and where as the visual art of the Latin America has developed from under a lot of influence from the Spanish, French and the Portuguese. They also have a considerable amount of Italian influence through these as they tend to follow the Italian artists. As the time passed, there was a paradigm shift and the Eurocentric art forms slowly started to fade away as the people of Latin America realized their uniqueness and started following their own traditional styles and forms of art.
Muralism is an artistic movement having its origin in Latin America and spread across to Mexico which is known as Mexican muralism. The murals are art work which is painted directly on any permanent surfaces like walls, or ceilings etc. Because of this influence, there are many world famous murals created in Colombia, Mexico, San Francisco, Los Angeles etc. The artists who make the murals are known as Muralista . Just like the other entire region in the world, the Latin America has its own unique form of art and the Latin American art has been influenced by the other European art form and also it has influenced art movements around the world.
