José López Galvéz was a photographer for the Los Angeles Times and an exhibitor in the 1984 Plaza de la Raza Folk Life Festival. He was an active supporter of Plaza de la Raza until he relocated to Arizona in 1992. The José Galvéz Collection, donated by the artist in November of 1989, is a collection of 180 silver gelatin prints. The images portray people and events in Lincoln Park in Los Angeles over a 10-year span.
The collection has been assigned to temporary storage with Plaza’s various permanent collections in their original boxes. The 26 framed images are displayed here. Descriptive names have been given to the photographs for identification purposes.
