When you’re out in society, you’ll often find that you have to spend money in order to be accepted by your peers and your colleagues. If you do that too often and you don’t have a lot of money, you could really end up in trouble. Not being able to pay your bills would be a very bad thing, so you don’t want to allow that to happen. Keeping up with others matters, but only to a point.
Taking care of yourself should be something that matters even more. Being financially responsible is one of the ways you can take care of yourself, so don’t assume that you only need to be concerned about things like your health. If you want to live a high dollar lifestyle you have to make a lot of money. The only other way to live like you have money is to spend what you do have very carefully so you have cash on hand for the things that are important to you. In other words, you’ll need to concentrate your spending in areas where you either need to pay a bill or need to impress someone to gain social standing. Other areas of your life are the things that you can cut back on.
Do it carefully, though, so you don’t end up out of money for something that you find more important than you thought it would be. You’ll always want to leave yourself some ‘wiggle room’ with your finances. That way when something unexpected comes up you can handle it instead of panicking or robbing one area of your life to pay for something in another area. A lot of people who live high society lives seem like that have it all, but what they really have are a lot of material things and a lot of debt.
