Art is Important in Education

With a struggling economy and serious cuts in education budgets around the country, art is becoming a thing of the past in schools. It’s being argued that art, music, and other activities really aren’t needed, and that the money that was used on them in the past would be better spent on something else. For some children who have no interest in music or art, that might be true. Overall, though, these kinds of classes provide students with a richer, fuller experience than they would otherwise get in school. Art teaches them more than just how to draw or paint.

Having art in an educational setting lets children take a break from math and science to learn about imagination and creativity. Everyone has these things, but some people get a lot more of an opportunity to exercise them than others. Imagination can be a very healthy way of expressing issues that a person is grappling with, and showing the world things that matter but that are difficult to say. With that in mind, removing art from schools seems as though it’s stifling children and keeping them from fully expressing themselves in ways that they feel comfortable with.

However, just because schools might not have the budget for it, doesn’t mean you don’t. Search the net for near by art classes, try craft stores they always have events going on, especially during the holidays. If its the impression of art and not art itself that entices your child try looking for classes for an online education degree. Don’t assume that art is a waste of time or a waste of money when it comes to an education budget. Children should be encouraged to have fun and to enjoy their lives, and they often aren’t treated this way. School and education should be serious because it’s very important for children to learn, but that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t also realize that there is a lot of joy to be found in that learning. Having art classes can help them see that joy. It can also give them a creative outlet that’s healthy and that they can use for the expression of their hopes, goals, and dreams.
